Emily Bild joins to run the Texel Foundation
The Texel Foundation (“the Foundation”), the philanthropic arm of independent insurance broker The Texel Group (“Texel”), is delighted to announce Emily Bild has joined as Foundation Manager, reporting into Andy Lennard, CEO and Chairman of the Texel Group and the Foundation’s board of trustees.
The Foundation was established in 2015 and receives 10% of Texel’s net profits annually. It partners with charities and social enterprises that promote health, education, social mobility and artistic opportunity. Since its formation, it has donated over £3,000,000 and supported 100 programmes across 25 countries.
Emily’s careers spans over 20 years in the non-profit sector working in the UK, Geneva and New Delhi on issues including child protection, human rights and disaster risk reduction. Prior to joining the Foundation she spent over eight years with GoPhilanthropic Foundation latterly as Director of Programs. She has held roles with UNICEF working on disaster risk reduction in New Delhi and Geneva, and also worked for Plan International and TARA Child Protection & Empowerment India. Emily is on the board of trustees for Railway Children, a charity founded in 1995 to protect street-connected children in India, the UK and Tanzania. She is also the co-director of Better Funding, an initiative aiming to transform the philanthropic landscape by promoting equitable, trust-based funding practices that empowers grassroots organisations and foster sustainable community-led change.
Andy Lennard, CEO and Chairman of the Texel Group, said: “Philanthropy has always been a cornerstone of Texel’s culture and identity but ten years ago we decided to formalise our volunteering and fundraising activities through the creation of the Texel Foundation. I firmly believe businesses have a social responsibility to give back – and the more profitable we are, the more money we can give away.
It is one of my greatest privileges to be involved in the Foundation; it provides purpose and having the right person leading our philanthropic activities is vital. I am thrilled we have Emily running the Foundation – she is a talented, knowledgeable and experienced individual in this space, and brings an insight into philanthropy and fundraising that will be hugely beneficial as we embark on the next decade of work. I am excited to see how she shapes and evolves the Foundation, and the Board and I look forward to working with her.”
Emily said: “I’ve worked in the non-profit sector for over 20 years and Texel Foundation’s model is a fantastic example of philanthropic giving, focusing on long-term partnership and providing long-term grants that truly support a charity’s ambitions and strategy. The Foundation was an early adopter of a more equitable partnership model, employing a relationship-based approach to its partnerships and ensuring its grant giving is as effective and equitable as possible. It’s a rarity to find a company that donates 10% of its net profits, alongside providing beyond-financial support to grantee partners. This is a fantastic opportunity and I’m very excited to work with Texel and the trustees to ensure the money raised can truly make a difference to our charitable partners.”
